Team SA Commonwealth Games update: Athletics Men’s 100m qualifying, first round: Simon Magakwe (10.34sec) and Akani Simbine (10.30) ended third and first respectively to go through to the semi-finals. Ncincilili Titi ended fourth in his heat with a 10.48 (equalling his personal best but failed to progress. Shot put qualifying: Orazio Cremona threw 20.03 to automatically qualify for Monday’s final. Combined T37/38 long jump final: Juanelie Meijer ended fifth with a jump of 4.06m, just 2cm shy of her personal best. Cycling Men’s 10km scratch event, qualifying: Nolan Hoffman ended sixth as England’s A Tennant won in 11.33. Evan Carstens recorded a DNF (Did not Finish). In the second heat Kellan Gouveris also had a DNF to his name. Men’s keirin: Bernard Esterhuizen ended second behind Aussie P Lewis (10.483sec) to book his place in the semi-finals. He went on to place sixth in the semi-finals and fail to make the finals. Lawn bowls Men’s Triples: South Africa reached the final and will take on Northern Ireland for the gold medal. SA beat Australia 18-14 after taking control of their match early, stretching into a 13-5 lead and then coasting home. Women’s Singles: Colleen Piketh lost her semi-final to 24-year-old Natalie Melmore, of England, 21-18 and will now be in the match for the bronze medal. She went on to play Northern Ireland’s Catherine McMillen and won 21-10 to win South Africa’s third bowls medal at the Games. Women’s Fours: South Africa beat Scotland 15-12 after going into the last end 13-12 ahead. They then came from well behind to win the gold medal by beating Malaysia 14-9. Men’s Fours, Section B, Round 1: South Africa lost 17-12 to India. Netball Pool B: South Africa lost 35-41 to England. The scores in the four quarters were 8-9 11-8 15-8 7-10 (English scores first). Shooting Queen’s Prize Individual final: Frederik Coetzee ended in fifth place (score: 104-11v) and Johannes du Toit 22nd (100-8v) in a field of 34 shottists. Swimming Men’s 50m breaststroke heats: Cameron van der Burgh, fresh from his silver in Saturday night’s 100m final, won his heat in 27.39, beating home New Zealand’s Glenn Snyders. Van der Burgh qualified second quickest for the evening’s semi-finals. In the semi-finals he won his heat in a new Commonwealth Games record of 26.80. Brad Tandy was DQ’d after finishing fifth in his heat in 28.57 Men’s 100m freestyle final: Leith Shankland finished seventh in 49.81. Men’s 100m butterfly heats: Chad le Clos won his heat in 52.66, qualifying fastest overall for the evening’s semi-finals. There he timed 52.12 in winning his race, which was the second fast of the two semis. Women’s 100m freestyle heats: Erin Gallagher finished fifth in her heat in 56.53 and qualified 13th overall for the semi-finals. There she finished sixth in 55.86 and failed to qualify for the final. Trudi Maree also qualified for the semi-finals when she finished fifth in her heat in 57.20 to take 15th place overall. She finished eighth in her semi-final in 56.53. Women’s 200m IM: Marlies Ross finished third in her heat in 2:17.17 to qualify for the semi-finals. Rene Warnes finished fifth in her heat in 2:19.56. The SA mens 4x200m freestyle relay team have won the bronze medal. The team comprising of Devon Brown, Chad le Clos, Sebastien Rousseau and Dylan Bosch finished behind winners Australia and hosts Scotland. Weightlifting Women’s 63kg, Group A: Mona Pretorius was the third SA competitor to record a no-weight in this codes.
