With a deep breath, I leaned in as closely as I could without coming across to any possible onlookers as threatening her. “Let me make this just as clear to you right here today as I did in Lawrence Danby’s office to him yesterday, Janet. I will do whatever must be done to secure the custody of my brother and sister, but I will not let you, Lawrence, Judge Stonefeld, or anyone else force me to do something that I do not want to do. If faking a relationship is what I have to do, then so be it, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let the three of you decide what’s best for me. Do you understand me?
