Tech News: Samsung Announces GALAXY Tab Active - IFA 2014 Samsung has announced yet another tablet at its press briefing at IFA 2014. The ruggedized Samsung Galaxy Tab Active is designed for productivity, yet is equipped with features that allow it to be taken into places that would be too unfriendly for regular tablets. It also has enterprise users in mind, which looks like it is meant for the travelling businessman. Protected by an IP67 water resistant certification, the Galaxy Tab Active can also survive drops of up to 1.2 metres. Which should allow it to survive taking a short spill off a table. How this relate to enterprise users is a little hazy, although it would probably be ideal for those in construction or oil & gas. It is also equipped with a reinforced version of the S-Pen called a C-Pen; included to allow gloved individuals the chance to use the touch input without having to remove their protective gear. As for the enterprise side, the tablet comes pre-loaded with Samsung Knox; Samsung’s own security program that works to keep work information separated from the rest of the phone. The system doesn’t get much press these days with all the focus on consumer devices, which makes the inclusion on the Galaxy Tab Active a curiosity. The display on the Galaxy Tab Active is a 8-inch WXGA screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. This modest front is followed by a similarly low key set of internals. Powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor it also includes 1.5GB RAM, a 3.1MP rear camera, 16GB of internal storage and a MicroSD slot. Only the battery is reasonably impressive at 4,450mAh, which Samsung claims will provide some 10 hours of general use. It will come in both WiFi and LTE variants, although there is no information about pricing or availability as yet.
