Tech Support Scam - October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Make it difficult for criminals to use your computers and smart phone devices against you. We want you to be aware of Tech Support Scams. THE BAIT: You see an error message on your computer warning you of a virus on your computer and to call a number right away. You might also get a phone call from a computer conman posing as an employee of Microsoft claiming there are serious virus problems with your computer. THE SCAM: The fake tech support scammer will ask to connect to your computer or trick you into installing malware that could steal sensitive data such as user names and passwords. They will also ask for your credit card number so they can bill you for phony services or hack into your computer and hold your files hostage until you pay up. HOW TO AVOID GETTING SCAMMED: If you get a call like this, HANG UP. Update your anti-virus software. Change passwords regularly. Dont give control of your computer to a person who calls you out of the blue. File a complaint with the FTC at goo.gl/4ldQd3. For more tips, visit goo.gl/RXxtLw .
