Telangana to Select 50 Women Cabbies to Run ‘She Taxis’ The Telangana government will soon select at least 50 women drivers to run the proposed She Taxis in the city. If the women drivers are not available in the city, the chance will be given to women from other districts. If a women driver is selected from other than the city, she will be provided with accommodation at the working women’s hostel in the city. The selection of women drivers will be completed soon and ‘She Taxis’ will be provided to them at 35 per cent subsidy. Telangana government on Friday constituted a committee for implementation of ‘She Taxi.’ Transport commissioner will be the chairman of the committee. Orders to this effect were issued on Friday. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao recently reviewed the report of the committee on the issues relating to safety and security of women and girls and instructed to expedite the work on the recommendations of the committee. With regard to the recommendations of the committee on safety of women passengers, the concept of ‘She Taxi’ was proposed. In order to prepare, implement and monitor the scheme, a committee was constituted, the order said. The other members of the committee are: a representative of the Inspector General, Traffic, the Director/Commissioner, Women & Child Welfare Department, representatives of the commissioners of police of Hyderabad and Cyberabad. The committee will prepare modalities for implementation of ‘She Taxi’ scheme to take up activities like preparation of project report, call for applications, selection of beneficiaries, tie-up with banks, selection and procurement of vehicles, training and orientation for seven days. The committee will submit its report on issues relating to safety and security of women and girls in Telangana with its recommendations. The committee will accord permission to give newspaper advertisement for selecting 50 women drivers from Hyderabad and Cyberabad to provide them with She Taxis at 35 per cent subsidy.
