Telling the truth is NOT equivalent to judging. Perhaps the light - TopicsExpress

Telling the truth is NOT equivalent to judging. Perhaps the light of truth causes us to judge ourselves, but instead of owning up to that discomfort, we point the finger at others and accuse them of judging us. And as long as we live by comparisons we will ALWAYS feel judged about something or another......the more noble goal is to live by standards and give little attention to where we are in comparison to others. As a young mother, I resented a friend of mine who seemed to have it all together......her kids wore shoes AND socks, she fed them very very well in terms of health, they were on top of everything that they should know for their age, she was always just so cute and well dressed. Her cooking skills were impeccable. I always felt less than around her, and as a result stayed irritated with her much of the time. Many years later I confessed to her that I felt judged by her and she was flabberghasted.....she had felt judged by me and thought that some of my skills were unattainable.....a funny and sad story......neither were judging the other but missed out on the full potential of our relationship because of our own feelings of inadequacy!
