Teluk Intan by-election Kenyataan rasmi Monyet King Istana Hinggap, 1 June 2014 . . 1. Congratulations to Mah Siew Keong for winning back the Teluk Intan seat. Gerakan gets to live again. 2. Although the winning margin was small, it is significant because it reserved the 7000+ majority that DAP won in 2013. 3. I think BN’s win was due to Pakatan’s bad tactics rather than BN’s campaign. BN, as usual, did a boring old campaign. 3. Although I think it was clever of DAP to field Dyana, several factors spooked the voters. Firstly PAS’ reigniting of the hudud debate so close to the by-election and DAP’s inability to rationalise it viz its role in Pakatan was critical. A lot of Chinese/Indian votes swayed because of this. Secondly Dyana’s statement on UiTM was not very clever – and being a newbie, she really had no standing to comment on many issues. And of all the hundreds of issues around, she picked UiTM. Fail. And she flip-flopped on hudud. Fail. 4. I do not think race of the candidate was a real factor. 5. To Pakatan’s supporters who cry “cheating, SPR corrupt, pengundi hantu, etc”, you are beginning to sound very stooooopid. Yes, that’s spelt with 5 o’s. When you win, everything is well and good. When you lose, suddenly there is all sort of shit in the elections. My advice : Be civilised in victory and in defeat. 6. This by-election is a good stepping stone for Dyana. I would like to see her move up the political ladder. But she has lots to learn. 7. Advice to PM Najib. For all future elections and campaigns, please kick out all the bald-headed, pot-bellied centenarians in BN and try to be a bit more creative lah. For a party that has so much resources, your campaigns are freaking archaic. 8. Where the duck is Anwar? 9. To the rest of you, enjoy whatever remains of your weekend. Besok balik kerja.
