Temps Eyes Blues Clash DAVID TEMPLETON admits the hamstring strain which sidelined him at the weekend was his own fault but hopes he’ll be fit enough to face Stranraer this Saturday. The winger has had a frustrating summer so far and spent the bulk of pre-season on the sidelines with a thigh problem. He recovered from that to score in his comeback match against Albion Rovers in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup at the end of last month. But playing a total of just under three hours of football in four days against Dundee and Forfar took its toll and left him unable to face Newcastle or Brechin recently. Templeton concedes he pushed himself too hard as he tried to make a positive impression after missing out on much of the warm-up programme. He is optimistic, however, of being able to come back into contention for the trip to Stair Park four days from now. And the former Hearts player realises he has to temper his enthusiasm and ease himself back into action at a more appropriate rate. Templeton told RangersTV: “It has been a tough pre-season for me. I started feeling okay then managed to get back and played a couple of games but then picked up another problem. “Hopefully I’ll be able to train enough this week and get my fitness up so that I’m available for Saturday. “When I came back, I think I tried to do too much in a short period of time. I played a lot of the Dundee game then played for longer than I should have at Forfar because of how it went. “If I had maybe not done that I might have been okay but I just need to learn from that and focus on getting ready to play again. “Every footballer is the same. They always try to push themselves to play as much as they can and because I was in the team, I wanted to keep playing and to play well. “I overdid it though and the surface at Forfar didn’t really suit me either when I was coming back from an injury.”
