Temptation is overcome by… Walking after, in and by the Spirit… Romans 8:1 (As a believer at the moment of salvation we begin to walk after the Spirit.)(1) There is therefore now no condemnation (judgment) to them (born again believers) which are in Christ Jesus (The moment one is saved they are spiritually immersed in Christ Jesus and He in them.), who walk (to keep in step with or follow after) not after the flesh (the sin nature), but after the Spirit (The believer walks after the Spirit because at the moment of salvation their spirit is infused spiritually, scripturally, and supernaturally with being born of the Spirit, the Spirit of Christ; see John 3:1-8.). Galatians 5:16-17 (As a believer after salvation, we begin to walk in the Spirit for sanctification [holy living]; whereby, we begin to see the Spirit’s character being manifested in and thought us.) (16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (17) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Ephesians 5:17-18 (As believer who walks after and in the Spirit we will begin to experience to walk by the Spirit for Spirit’s filling unto service.)17) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. (18) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Willfully yielding, by faith, to the LORD Jesus Christ at the moment of temptation… Hebrews 12:1-3 (1) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses (This is referencing those heroes of the faith mentioned in chapter 11.), let us lay aside every weight (This is referencing anything whether intrinsically good or evil that hinders the Christian running a victorious race.), and the sin (UNBELIEF) which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience (This is the ability to abide faithful in and through the LORD Jesus Christ regardless of the situation or circumstance.) the race that is set before us, (2) Looking (spiritually, scripturally, and supernaturally perceiving by faith) unto Jesus the author (the originator) and finisher (completer) of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (3) For consider (This is the same idea as looking unto Jesus.) him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (As we faithfully focus on the LORD Jesus Chris, by faith, we will victoriously run the Christian race, and we will not become weary or faint in our minds.) Waiting prayerfully in a position of humility upon the bestowed grace of God, for God resists the prideful, the independent spirit, but gives His grace to those who are dependent upon Him, by faith: 1 Peter 5:5-6 (5) …God resisteth the proud (Pride is a spirit that seeks to resist and act independent of God and the absolute authority of the Word of God.) , and giveth grace to the humble (To be humble before God is to be completely dependent upon God by faith in all matters.). (6) Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time (God by His grace and in His timing will have His will, way, and work with us if we humble ourselves before Him.): Watching for the tempter, the devil, and his temptation (through psychic influence or through the satanic world’s sinful influence) through prayer and spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural focus: 1 Peter 5:7-11 (7) Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (8) Be sober (be spiritually sound in mind), be vigilant (be spiritually alert); because your adversary (your enemy) the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (9) Whom resist stedfast in the faith (In Ephesians 6:16, we are to take up and deflect the fiery darts of wicked-the devil with our shield of faith.), knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (10) But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. (God has all things under His sovereign control and is working all things to our good that love and his glory.) (11) To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Wheeling the Word of God, the Bible, as a spiritual sword against the devil… Matthew 4:1-11 (1)Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. (2) And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. (3) And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God (The devil seeks to always case doubt-unbelief.), command that these stones be made bread. (This is the devil tempting with the lust [desire to have] of the flesh or the natural desires of the flesh not given to the LORD.) (4) But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (5) Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, (6) And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. (This is the devil tempting with or the pride of life [desire to do] or the acting independent of God in a matter.) (7) Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. (8) Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; (9) And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. (This is the devil tempting the lust [desire have] of the eyes.) (10) Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (11) Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. (Note three times the LORD Jesus Christ rebukes the devil with the quotation of Scripture; in regards to the desire to be, do, and have outside of the perfect sovereign will of God.) With standing the tempter the devil by being suited up with the whole armor of God: Ephesians 6:10-20 Be strong in the LORD: (10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Be able to stand against the wiles (trickery) of the devil: (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Be able to withstand in the evil day: (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Be suited up with the whole armour of God… (14a) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth… (14b) …and having on the breastplate of righteousness… (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace… (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked... (17a) And take the helmet of salvation… (17b) …and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God..: Be praying in the Spirit for others and for divine doors of bold opportunity to witness: (18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (19) And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, Be ambassador speaking forth boldly the truth: (20) For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Walking in the world as a witness of the LORD Jesus Christ, by faith, but do not love (embrace) the world or the things of world: 1John 2:15-17 (15) Love not (embrace not) the world (The world is the satanic system that opposes God and the absolute authority of the Word of God.), neither the things (money and materialism) that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (16) For all that is in the world, the lust (carnal desire) of the flesh (the sin nature, the carnal desire to have), and the lust of the eyes (the carnal desire to do), and the pride of life (the carnal desire to be), is not of the Father, but is of the world. (17) And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever. 1John 5:4-5 (4) For whatsoever is born of God (see John 3:1-16) overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (see Hebrews 11:1, 6; 12:1-3). (5) Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (To believe that Jesus is the Son of God is to believe He is your Savior, Sovereign God, and Supreme LORD.)
