Ten degrees this morning, sort of crispy out there. Started a fire for the chickens in their neat wood stove insert. Another example of Rons cleverness---a way to keep them warm without burning down the chicken coop. (That place that is filled with straw...) Had to do a fire in the Amish kitchen stove too last night. The living room stove just couldnt do the job alone. You folks with normal houses that have heat delivered to every room probably lose more heat than we do. But you dont know it because the thermostat just kicks on and deals with it. Weve done every trick to keep the heat in. And manage to heat this big house with one small fire, and various vents to upstairs rooms, using about 4 cords of wood. Not bad. Takes work I guess, but so worth it. That stove is like some benevolent being you can cozy up to when you want a warm hug.....
