Ten reasons why Gilbert Goh should be considered a true hero of Singapore: 1. His protest against the population white paper has gained international media attention, which is good for Singaporeans because it brings about high-level discussions and critiques about the PAPs flawed growth policy by taking in cheap foreign labour. Singaporeans are now more aware that economic growth should come from productivity increases. 2. His website collectively highlights a serious problem in Singaporean economy - unemployment - which the PAP has been denying for such a long time. In addition, he has been extremely helpful for many of the unemployed by giving them somewhere to turn to and have a listening ear in their most trying times. 3. In relation to the above, he has been doing this so successfully that sometimes SMEs and HR personnel contact him to offer jobs to Singaporean citizens only. His success in helping the unemployed is evidence of the fact that you dont really need so many foreigners when there is a local pool you can tap on. 4. He has managed to provide so many destitute Singaporeans with financial aid when the PAP has clearly abandoned them. All these funding are through his own efforts and resources even though he is not well-off himself, revealing a dedication that cannot be found in other men who are PAP members. 5. He is superbly effective in the causes he campaigns for. Remember the NIE teacher who was asked to pay MOE $70k in one shot after breaking her bond? It was Gilberts effective letter highlighting that MOE has spent so much on foreign scholars that resulted in a negotiation process directly between MOE and the lady involved. 6. Remember his boycott campaign against ANZ for allegedly discriminatory hiring practices? Not only has this forced ANZ to publicly apologize, but word has it that the banking industry is now asked to hire more Singaporeans by the authorities because of this backlash. His allegedly radical actions sometimes work best when the PAP is so bloody stubborn. 7. He has teamed up with other activists such as Roy Ngerng, Robert Teh, Goh Meng Seng and many others to create a platform for effective sharing for political alternatives and raise awareness of PAPs failures as well. In a time where Singapore is growing more politically liberal, this is an indeed priceless value for the electorate. 8. He has proved himself to be very adept as well in raising ideas for other issues in a light-hearted manner in his 10 reasons why... style. So far, the topics covered range from why PAP will fail and why LHL is the worst PM ever. Building on his supporter base, he has provided outreach and a more global perspective. 9. His past history activism work helped him build credibility when he contested in Tampines GRC in GE2011, which saw the incumbent suffer a vote swing of more than 11.2% against them. As we see from such elections, the vote swing was effective in serving as a warning to PAP that we are no longer willing to tolerate their nonsense. 10. Lastly, he has dedicated himself and his counselling skills entirely to an organisation that he has founded solely to help others. This is very remarkable even though he has other commitments such as a daughter. Not many people have such an ability to selflessly enrich the lives of others before themselves.
