Ten years ago today, my mother, the best mother that any worthy child could be boastful of, completed her earthly assignment and returned to the Lord to give accounts of her stewardship. Because sweet are the memories of the righteous, I have been blessed to remember each day that passed since your journey to glory with gratitude and fond memories of great love and care you showered on me and my other siblings. Even today as I remember my mother, the abiyamo tooto, who sacrificed all the personal comfort to ensure her childrens survival and success, Im filled with enormous amount of gratitude to God who blessed me with such a wonderful mother. I am a better me today because of mamas selflessnes and constant assurance given me that the only person that can make things happen is God. She gave me faith....she gave me hope. She nurtured me in the way of the Lord, and since then I never departed from that way. Although I was not present with you at your final goodbye to your children, my siblings told me of your bright and wide smile on that bright Sunday afternoon as you looked up to the ceilings, apparently beholding the angels sent to herald you home, and definitely admiring the glorious home prepared for you. In that gaze, as they told me, I believe you beheld the Ancient of days face-to-face. That has been my greatest joy because I know that If I continue to tow the line you laid down for me.....by loving others, by caring for others, by being supportive of the needy, and by continuing to serve God I would, one day, see you again at the bosoms of our Lord Jesus Christ. And until then, mama mi Abebi, continue to rest at the bosoms of your God. We are holding the forte....we are keeping your legacy. We are protecting your good names. Because sweet are your memories, we are not weeping.....rather we are rejoicing at the assurance of your eternal rest.
