Tensions were high as our volunteer arrived at a Georgia shelter, only to find out that it was euthanasia day there and dogs were already being pulled from their kennel runs to take their final walk. As if kill day wasn’t hard enough to comprehend, it was virtually untenable to think that dogs like this one would take their last breath as their lives were being cut short by a heartstick. Although there to rescue one dog, our angel volunteer gazed into the soulful eyes of this gorgeous spaniel/retriever mix who we call “MAGIC GIRL.” At the tender age of 2, Magic Girl had more than three strikes against her; she was sick with a yucky upper respiratory infection, she had been sitting for a month in this shelter, she was a black dog, and today was kill day. Her chance of survival was zero. But her eyes showed such loyalty and hope. Taking a huge leap of faith, our volunteer (who you see in the video) made an immediate decision to pull Magic Girl to safety, but her journey is not over. She is at the vet and will need a full intake vetting, treatment for her cough, a bath, heartworm testing, spay, shots, etc. We did not have time to secure funds or a foster since this pull happened moments before the animal was put to sleep, so we beg that you please step forward and support what we believe was one amazing save.
