Terce-Part of the Homily Preached Yesterday (8/7) at the 7 pm Mass – But who do you say that I am?-: “The true Catholic mind is ruled by faith and readily accepts the truth revealed by God and taught to us by the authority of the Church. So let us study the Catechism to know what and what we are supposed to believe and believe them.” The same faith and spirit that prompted the right response from St Peter resides presently in Pope Francis. Unfortunately, an increasing number of Catholics are refusing to submit to the authority of Peter and are claiming for themselves the right to believe whatever they please. This is because we have compromised with the secular culture that surrounds us. And so in the spirit of secular free thinking many of us are coming to adopt the idea that nobody is going to tell them what to do or believe. Some Catholic women now consider themselves ordained as priests without Church approval; many Catholics no longer go to confession because they consider it improper to confess to a fellow human being; some even call the Pope a false prophet. This is blasphemy to the Almighty God and the height of catechetical ignorance. In reality, such people are not even Catholics. The Catholic Church is not a Church of personal opinion; she is not a democracy and is not influenced by opinion poll. The true Catholic mind is ruled by faith and readily accepts the truth revealed by God and taught to us by the authority of the Church. So let us study the Catechism to know what and what we are supposed to believe and believe them.
