Territorial Army Warrant Officer (WO2) Les Hunt has been awarded an MBE in this New Years Honours list. WO2 Hunt a member of 135 Independent Geographic Squadron based in Ewell, Hermitage, has served 38 years with the Territorial Army and the same Squadron, and was absolutely delighted when he received the news. Les said, “I heard the news during a wet and windy training weekend at Longmoor when my Officer Commanding rang to congratulate me, I did not have the slightest inkling.” WO2 Hunt along with his Wife Elizabeth who is a Practice Nurse in Camberley his daughter Caroline who is a Paediatric Nurse in Guildford and his son David who is a Doctor in the Royal Army Medical Corps, will be looking forward to going to Buckingham Palace in early summer to receive his medal. During his Territorial Army Service as a Royal Engineer WO2 Hunt , who also worked as a Civil Servant for the MOD, completed three deployments on Operational tours, Macedonia in 1999, Kosovo in 2000, and in 2010 he mobilised to Afghanistan as the Warrant Officer in Charge of the Theatre Map Depot in Kandahar, a critical post providing mapping to the many contingents of the multi-national forces deployed in Afghanistan. WO2 Hunt is now retired as a Civil Servant but has recently extended his Territorial Army Service for another year, so after serving as the Squadron’s longest serving Sergeant Major, Les is now responsible for recruiting.
