Tesco complex named Britain’s ugliest new building for ‘oppressive’ design An “oppressive” Tesco supermarket complex in south-east London has been named Britain’s worst new building. Woolwich Central, a 17-storey development above a 7,800sq m Tesco, has been awarded the unwanted title by architecture magazine Building Design. Judges said the mixed-use building, comprising of 189 apartments, was an “overwhelming” winner, describing it as “oppressive, arrogant and inept”.
