Testing Our Hearts 1 Thessalonians 2:1-4 For you yourselves - TopicsExpress

Testing Our Hearts 1 Thessalonians 2:1-4 For you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain. But even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict. For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit. But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts. --- It’s clear from these verses that Paul (and others) experienced some difficulty – possibly from believers – while in Philippi at one time. It’s also possible that Paul is referencing persecution of some kind. Enter verse 2 – “but with the help of God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.” In this, Paul persevered and took right action to please God. He didn’t do it to please people, or for any self-serving interests. He did it knowing that God tests the hearts of those who love Him. Your next “pop quiz of the heart” could be right around the corner.
