Texas A&M has been having a busy year! Cupcake Hangout- SWE-TAMU hosted a cupcake decorating hangout at the beginning of the fall semester. It was a great way to meet new members! Engineering Fair- SWE-TAMU participated in the Engineering fair at the beginning of the school year to introduce new students to SWE. Everybody loved playing with the giant JENGA set. First Meeting- SWE-TAMUs first meeting of the semester was full of excited new students with a turnout of over 250 SWE members! After the SWE informational meeting, people could sign up for several opportunities with SWE-TAMU. TI Lunch and Learn- SWE-TAMU hosted a luncheon for members to learn more about Texas Instruments. The representative gave great advice about interviewing skills. Networking Night-SWE-TAMU hosted its second annual Networking Night. This was an excellent opportunity for members to meet employees from several companies while enjoying good conversation and food. Schlumberger Informational- Schlumberger informed SWE-TAMU members about opportunities within Schlumberger, what it is like to work out in the field, and about how to enter the Stilettos to Steel Toes essay contest. Luau Social- SWE-TAMU members enjoyed some Hawaiian fun at a Luau social. The evening was full of games, food, and getting know other women in engineering majors. Pumpkin Carving Social-SWE-TAMU hosted a joint pumpkin carving social with another engineering organization on campus. It was a good break from studying, and a great way to meet other engineering students. Starbucks Study Hangout-SWE-TAMU members drank coffee and studied together at a lounge on campus. It was a relaxing way to meet other students and get some work done at the same time! SEC soccer tournament- SWE members formed a team to join the Student Engineers Councils soccer tournament. Everyone had fun, and we won our first game! SWE National Conference- Texas A&M SWE was represented by 16 members at WE14 where we attended various sessions, networked with professionals and collegiates from other sections and had fun in Los angeles! SWE-TAMU also won two awards (OCS Gold & Outreach Series first place) at the Celebrate SWE banquet! Hot Cocoa Hangout- SWE members enjoyed an evening of sweets, hot cocoa, and good conversation. Graduate Student Panel- A graduate student panel shared their experiences and answered students questions about graduate studies. SEC Spark Conference- SWE joined the Student Engineers Council to host an event for elementary through high school students. We organized a competition where students had to design protection for an egg that would be dropped from the third story. U Paint It Social- SWE members took a break from studying for finals in December by painting some pottery at U Paint It! It was a lot of fun and a great stress reliever. Freshman Luncheon- SWE-TAMU hosted a luncheon in August to welcome freshman engineering students to Texas A&M. It was a great way for new students to get advice from upperclassmen. SWE Group at General Meeting- Seeing the growing popularity of our mint green shirts, we decided to capture our members in those shirts at a general meeting! Officer Training- SWE-TAMU kicked off this years officer retreat with a ropes course with both low and high elements. The officers learned about teamwork and got to know each other better too!
