Thane may get cancer hosp, to be run by Tata Thane: The general body of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), scheduled on November 20, will take a call on the proposal of setting up a cancer hospital in Thane on the lines of the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, which will also manage the project in the lake city. While the TMC has proposed to set up the hospital near the Modella check naka, the Tata hospital authority has requested the civic body to set up the project on a mill land opposite Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium, said a senior TMC official. State health department officials said that patients with a poor financial background are charged only for a few medical tests while their admission and stay charges at the hospital is free of cost. Over 45% of the total patients admitted in Tata seek admission under the No Charge (NC) category, which admits patients free of cost, said the official.
