Thank You During Lent I received a thank you card from someone - TopicsExpress

Thank You During Lent I received a thank you card from someone as a Lenten discipline. From Ash Wednesday until Easter she wrote a card a day to people who had impacted her life. I was surprised that someone would take such time, daily writing with ink on paper telling others what a difference they had made in her life. But when I thought about it, I realized the beauty in the discipline. She was using her time to recognize how others had made an imprint on her life, and at the same time thought about how she wanted to reflect what God had done for her in the way she loved others. Her actions have reminded me of how I am in awe of you, members and friends of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer you are more than deserving of a thank you card. I feel the words of Paul’s letter to the Philippians, “I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.” Throughout the year you’ve taken time to share your life with children through church school, confirmation, music, and special events. You’ve made a joyful noise to the Lord with voices, pianos, organs, bells, and dance. You’ve done amazing work through serving on committees and council. You’ve enriched our common life through your study of the Bible, through serving during your Faith and Care month, through Christian fellowship with one another, and through your concern for others. You’ve done God’s work serving food to the poor, bound up wounds with kits, quilts, blankets, and prayer shawls. You’ve prayed in times of joy and sorrow. You are Christ’s body in the world. None of us can do everything, and that’s o.k., we’re not supposed to. We were all given different gifts. Paul says, “The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4).” As I look around Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, I see so many people, each in his or her own way, each using the special talents and gifts God gave them, making Jesus Christ known through word and deed. It is a beautiful sight. Thank you. Pastor Chris Matson
