Thank you, Elizabeth Woods for nominating me for the ALS ice bucket challenge; Im happy to be a part of such a remarkable cause. However, Im going to take a page out of Tom Wootens book and direct my efforts toward preventing a different neurological disorder: Alzheimers disease. With my mom owning two rest homes, I grew up around many elderly people suffering from a variety of neurological issues. While I wish I could help fund research for all of them, Im choosing Alzheimers disease because my grandmother suffered from it in her later years. She lived with my mom and I for 6 years before passing away in 2012; and from this experience, I can sincerely say that this is a disease that can affect you even if you dont have it. They were 6 painful, heartbreaking years, and I hope I never have to watch someone so bright and passionate lose her wisdom and light. So while I fully support all research to prevent ALS, Im choosing to donate $35 to the Alzheimers Association in memory of a wholehearted, spirited, and wonderful woman. I challenge those who read this to donate to any cause that means something to you. And I challenge my mom, Anita Thompson, to donate to the Alzheimers Association as well.
