Thank you, everyone for all the wonderful birthday wishes!! All of you are so incredibly kind! I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you’d take time out of your busy schedules and lives, especially during this time of year to think of me and post on my wall. You guys rock!! It’s been a hard few weeks. As many of you know, my arthritis has been really bad since Halloween and over the last few weeks, I’ve been unable to do all the normal holiday things I love to do with family and friends, and I’ve been basically bedridden with it. And then earlier this week, my hubby lost his grandmother. If everyone would keep them in their prayers, I’d appreciate it. The worst part is, I know that what we’re going through is nothing compared to what others are. Sadly, what worse horrors some of you face. That there are so many more in need, who are hurting and who have suffered tremendous loss. It was this time of year, not that long ago, that I was homeless with an infant, not knowing if I’d ever have shelter for my child again. Not knowing if I’d be able to keep him. I will never forget those feelings of hopeless despair and utter desolation. And this day is always bittersweet as I used to share it with one of my dearest friends, fellow writer L.A. Banks, who I lost way too soon. Back in the day, Les and I toured together and spent countless hours talking about that “one day when we’re on the list.” There’s not a day goes by that I don’t miss my Birthday Twin. Not a conference or convention I attend that I don’t feel her absence like a physical pain. So for my birthday wish, in honor of the great Ms. Les and the beauty of her spirit that was forever a shining beacon, there is one thing I’d like everyone to do. In the midst of our mad, daily rush, take a moment, look in the mirror and say, “Hey, you know what? You’re awesome! We’re still pulling weeds, but the garden’s getting better.” That was an inside saying between us about how life is ever a work in progress. But no matter, we’re always in the light, working on it. Ain’t no evil going to get us down. Not today and not tomorrow. And I can’t thank all of you enough for sharing my garden with me and for being part of my world. Bless you all and please take care of yourselves! Big GIANT hugs!!!!
