Thank you for accepting this guy. I like the bee. I purchased a hive of Tetraganola carbonaria only a couple of months ago. I have had honey bees since the start of this year, but became interested in our natives when I moved into my current abode and became friends with the sugarbag hive in the tree in my back yard. I began building native hive boxes for a hobby and for the bees. I have built 7. They were for future splits or chance capture. Then the tree fell down in my back yard. I had my boxes ready before the tree hit the ground. There were bees everywhere. I started to remove the waxy goo that was pouring from the tree and placing it a box. Remember, there are bees everywhere. In my eyes, in my shorts (they came off for easiness sake), my mouth, my ears and they were thick in the air. I felt bad. But I kept going, for the hive was completely exposed and I was the massacring saviour. It was rather large so I put the contents of the tree into three boxes (this was silly, I was being greedy, it should have been two, its a learning curve and I dont think Ive mentioned this was the first time I had done this and beside the gentle universe guiding me I was totally winging it), anywho, all this late afternoon and I get the boxes sealed up just before dusk. Two days later and two of the hives gave up and ants cleaned up, but I removed the better looking parts of these two and gave it to the natural surviver. A week and a half later and the surviving hive has strong activity and seems happy and the tree seems to be in a state of repair (there may be more hive up inside the tree I cant see, which is good). I have one of the empty box that didnt work still containing some wax and resins sitting at the fallen tree and that is receiving some interest, but that is anybodies guess at the moment.
