“Thank you sire.” We all said. We bowed again. Then Doran came - TopicsExpress

“Thank you sire.” We all said. We bowed again. Then Doran came down and told us to follow him. We formed a line, and trailed behind him. He led us back outside the castle, and down to the arena. When we reached the Arena, he led us into the ready room. Then he showed us where the boys would change into their uniforms, and where the girls would. He then said we had ten minutes to get ready, and that we would find compartments with our names on them, so that we had the correct size of uniform. I followed the guys into the room off to the left. I went over to my compartment and stepped inside. Good, I thought; a little privacy for a minute before I headed out into the arena. I stripped down and put the uniform on. I turned and looked into the mirror on the wall. My uniform had a base color of brown, intertwined with green, traced with gold. It also had a black sash with a quiver to hold the arrows in. One other feature of the uniform was the gold number on the back. I had the number two. I wondered who had the number one. Since there were seven of us, there would be of course, uniforms numbered up to seven. I remembered back to past years when I was younger and I was in the audience watching the fifteen year olds perform in front of everyone. One year in particular, when I was thirteen, there were a shocking amount of fifteen year olds. If I remember correctly, there were actually fourteen of them performing that year. Suddenly there were two loud bangs, bringing me out of my thoughts. Then the voice of counselor Doran came floating through the room. “Five minutes!” He called out, “When you are finished meet me back in the throne room and I will escort you to the arena.” I decided that since I had finished changing, that I might as well head out. I took one last look in the mirror, took a deep breath, and left the little compartment. On my way back out to the throne room, one of the other boys stepped out of their cubicle and fell in step with me. He had blonde hair that was combed back, and fell a little ways below his shoulders. He actually happened to be number one. He had a pretty strong build, a bulky upper body with strong, long legs to support it. He stood at least five inches taller than me, and I was probably about five feet and three inches tall which was a little less than average. The boy turned to me with and outstretched hand and a smile. I accepted, and shook. “Name’s Jack, right?” He asked. “Yea.” I answered. “What’s yours?” “Roran.” He said with a small smile.
