Thank you so much to everyone for all your prayers, positive thoughts and support today. It turns out that Tav managed to stab himself in the ear with something (we have no idea what!), likely seeking to find relief from the pressure of a developing middle ear infection. This left him with not only the developing middle ear infection, but an in-situ bacterial infection at the site of the abrasion. Unfortunately, getting help for Tav in situations like this is very complicated as any examination that needs to be done can only be accomplished under sedation. There are basically no hospitals or clinics that can handle a case like Tav outside of Sick Kids, so thats where we had to go. It was a brutal, exhausting day but we are home safe and sound, with piles of antibiotics and analgesics so we should see improvements quickly. I want to take this opportunity to thank one person, in particular, who we cant thank enough. During the craziness today, Tavs long-time clinician (11+ years and counting now), Nancy Warren, accompanied me to the hospital to provide support to Tav and to Greg and I under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, with no hesitation, no questions asked, unwaveringly above and beyond. Nance, I have no idea how we fell into your care all those years ago, but there are no words to describe how profoundly and deeply grateful we are for all you do for our Tav. And for us. We are humbled and honoured by your love and dedication. Always
