Thank you to everyone that came out to our Family Skate Night on - TopicsExpress

Thank you to everyone that came out to our Family Skate Night on Saturday (Photo album to follow shortly). Our goal was to have a fun & safe pre-Halloween experience but more importantly it was an opportunity for our T1D kids and families to get together for networking and moral support. Growing up a T1D, I never had to opportunity to meet other T1D kids. Now its almost bitter sweet that Ive had the pleasure to meet so many. Id like to also thank my mom & dad (Rich & Carole Hightower) for all the sleepless nights Ive caused them (as most T1D parents can relate to). You guys did an amazing job with the Monster Mouth desserts, sugar free jello and all the other handmade items you crafted for the raffle along with the gift cards you donated. A lot of people say that T1D kids are heroes...actually, were just living our lives. The parents are the true heroes. Without you there wouldnt be us. You were not the cause of our Diabetes, but yet you fight hard for us everyday. Thank you and please keep up the fight. To my sisters, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews...Thank you for being there to support me and my many crazy hair brained ideas. Our nice family bike ride turned into a mission. A mission to raise awareness of Diabetes and support a search for a cure. You guys have seen first hand why I am so passionate about doing what we do. I hope we can continue this tradition this coming May with two rides for the Tour de Cure (You can all stop swearing at me now). To my friends and teammates whom I also call my family...I want to thank you for dedicating yourselves to helping me without hesitation every time Ive reached out to you. Your moral support and financial support can never be repaid. You all know that I would circle the globe on my bike if you needed me to (actually that gives me an idea...Dont say NO just yet Mauricio). To the Aguirre Family, Pescetti Family, Perry Family and Turner Family...You guys are amazing T1D families. Im thankful for the opportunity to personally get to know you and have fun with you. You guys are all champions in the fight against Diabetes. Together we can really make a difference. Last but not least, to my wife (Leeta Hightower)...Thank you for putting up with me for the last 22 years. I know I havent always been the best Diabetic, but you stood by me and kept pushing me to take better control. Im sorry for putting you through those rough years. I can honestly say, because of you, Im a better person. I may joke with you and call you my EOF (Enemy of Fun), but in reality, you kept me grounded and focused on the task at hand. Without your support and love I wouldnt be half the man I am today. I love you all... Now whos ready for our next adventure? Duck Fiabetes!!!
