Thank you to everyone who came to the opening night of Blue - TopicsExpress

Thank you to everyone who came to the opening night of Blue Christmas last night at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, NYC. The past year has been filled with magic and wonder, with amazing opportunities and lovely people Ive met along the way. But there have also been times of pain and loss; loneliness and heartache. With this show, Handsome Jeremy, Musical Oracle and I hope to indulge the wintertime sadness we all sometimes feel, and transmute it into joy and hope. In the photos for this article by Erik Piepenburg for the New York Times Im wearing my grandmothers vintage fur hat, and the wedding dress that she got married in. When the photos were taken she was still with us, and by the time the article ran, she had passed away. Im very grateful for her influence on my life-- when I was young she was full of life and always created a space where my sister and I could be free and explorative. Her love of fur coats and bold fashions is something I like to think I inherited from her. Plus, she taught me how to swear in French. I know her spirit is with me even now, and it always will be. So come sing sad songs with us-- we can take our Christmas sadness and turn it into togetherness and joy. Well be donating a portion of the ticket sales to the Ali Forney Center, protecting LGBTQ youth from the harm of homelessness. Some tickets still remain for tonights show, and for tomorrows 1 pm and 7 pm shows: spincyclenyc/index.php/holiday/120-alaska
