Thank you to everyone who read the articles about Huangyan Island. After China presented their proof of the island being in their territory, I have believed China ever since the dispute with the Philippines in August 2012. But my belief is not only based on the historical and factual material provided by the Chinese government and the Chinese media, but also on the fact that China had possession of the island thousands of years before the Philippines had an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). President Ferdinand Marcos, by virtue of the Presidential Decree No. 1599 issued on June 11, 1978 claimed an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) up to 200 nautical miles (370 km) from the baselines from which their territorial sea is measured. This obviously was done based on ignorance, not knowing the location of the territorial sea border with China. The fact that the EEZ was never properly mapped and corrected, is an embarrassment of Philippines government.
