Thank yours from the Event Stewards for KW Cooks & Bards: It was, for both of us, 100 hours from our steads to the artistic village that we brought to life in the rolling, wooded hills of Northshield. With Ragan Tosgair there to make sure that our heads didn’t roll away, we set out on this journey over two years ago. After countless number of hours, headaches and triumphs, research and inspiration, laughter and tears, we did what we set out to do—we showed a small portion of the Known World how brightly Northshield and its denizens can shine. There was no way that the three of us or even that number tenfold could have brought forth this venue for the prime of the cooks and bards and brewers and vintners of the SCA. I hope that I do not miss anyone here and if I do you may have my mea culpa now. Know, though, that these words are heartfelt and from the core of our beings. We have no idea how to set these in order but know that there is no slight meant if a name appears later than others. To our academic coordinators: Eliane Halevy (Jennifer Friedman) — Bardic and Cross-Discipline Classes; Margaret Fitzwilliam of Kent (Jennifer Getty) — Cooking and B&V. Wrangling over 80 teachers and making sure they had what they needed for the 100 classes we were lucky enough to offer—you two ladies did so with smiles that were never-ending. To the 80 plus teachers that came from 12 different kingdoms, you brought knowledge, enthusiasm, experience, and the joy of learning to almost 350 people from 17 of the 19 kingdoms. To our two incredible Keynote Speakers, Alys Katharine (Midrealm) and Adelaide de Beaumont (Ansteorra) who not only provided awesome, informative talks but also taught other classes, and helped wherever they could besides. For other planning and logistics: Sorcha inghen Maille (Jonya Pacey) — Proceedings Coordinator; Annora le Spindlere (Vicki Spindler) — Event Exchequer; Nikea of Istanbul (Charvonne Kemp) — Food Coordinator; Ingrid the Crafty (Ingrid Stark) — Merchant liaison; Stephen Lee Rich (Ingrid’s hubby)—Video and sound support; Nikolaus der Auslander—Video and AV support; Radegund (Amy Shea) and Gráinne Fhionnabhair inghean Fhaoláin (Jennifer Siegel) — Website; Suzanne de la Ferté [Northshield / Calontir] (Suzanne Booth) — Webforms design and maintenance; Matthias of Rolling Oak (Matt Schwall) (and the Great Household of the Dark Horde) — Security and general site minioning; Edward the Tall (Ed Jilbert) — Signage; Leah Jolifaunt of Schattentor (Marti Fuerst) — Art (logo design and site booklets and invitations); Medb Renata (M. Not everything we planned came out perfect as we saw it in our minds but oh, what did happen, was glorious!!! Food and hospitality: Samia Al-Kaslaania (Julia May) and Anne Geoffreys of Warwick (Nancy Cuno-Schmitz) as the organizers and so many cooks, brewers and vintners who contributed food and drink to show off the skills of Northshield and start the weekend off right at the Friday night Wine & Cheese Reception; Julianna deLeon (Marie Carlson)— Friday welcome meal; The Barony of Caer Anterth Mawr cooks’ guild (and so many others) organized by Myfanwy ferch Elys (Julia Kathan) — Saturday breakfast; Abraam Samuel Ben Jucef & Caera of Shattered Oak and their crew (Lyle and Shannon Kirschbaum) — Saturday lunch; Balthazar fitz Gryphon (Mark Weiland) — Feast Steward & Head Cook; Jois Corbett (Deena Peterson) — Head Server for feast (and her incredible crew of servers and dishwashers—the shining, shining lights of which were Ronin of Jararvellir and Colban MacGillis from Silren Mere; Vitaliano Tagliere Vincenzi (Shane Lambert) and his crew— Saturday supper; The Shire of Falcon’s Keep organized by Ealasaid nic Phearsoinn (Elspeth Christianson) — Sunday breakfast; Garraed Galbraith (Tim Jennings) and his crew— Sunday lunch; and the Shire of Rivenwood Tower led by Nell the Innocent (Linda Hebert- Prahl) — Sunday supper and Monday breakfast; plus Jane Waye (DeNae Leverentz) who ended up organizing a way to feed the staff on Friday and made sure coffee, water, and snacks were everywhere they were needed before a virus laid her low. Gifts for teachers: Talk about those that share their talents nobly. Dyonisia Buleheued (Beth Soch) and the Shire of Hvitskogar who created fifty (yes, you read that right 50) bags of holding for the bardic teachers; Guttorm Arneson (Owen Christianson) who turned 36 spurtles for the cookery teachers (giving us a chance to teach everyone, who didn’t know yet, what a spurtle was; and Bayard the Turner (Ron Williams) for his 10 beautiful tasting cups that he turned for our B&V teachers; Tosten du Calais (Doug Vukson-Van Beek) — Special gifts for Feast Stewards (cooking pots with lids and the three rondels that became our trademark of the event; and Tonya [An Tir] (Tonya Smith) — Special tokens for staff. Extra Special Thanks: Much of the food for the feast and Saturday supper was grown locally and (non-certified) organically, and was donated to the event by Ragan Tosguir (Ann Scade) and Michael the Artificer (Michael Boettcher). We thank them profusely for this, and for many other aspects of the event. Special thanks: The staff of Camp Wawbeek including Carissa Miller (Camp Wawbeek director), Ellen (camp staff), and Ken Saville (Vice President, Program Development, Easter Seals Wisconsin) Terry, our on-site staffer (who received the late-night phone calls), and to Christopher at the Office Depot in Madison for the Site Booklet printing (single-handed in 2 days). Proofreading of the site booket by Alys K., Brendan, Myfawnwy, Gráinne, Eibhleann, Margaret, Anpliça, Lasiar, Andrew, Silence, Amelinne, Cobflaith, Melissa, and Kudrun. I have no doubt I missed someone and you, too, are thanked. We were told when we put the bid together to expect about 100-120. We figured we could attract about 150 since Northshield loves to cook, eat, entertain and be entertained. We are so overwhelmed by those that traveled so far to teach and to learn and to help out. Thank you to each and every one of you, including those who were not physically there but were giving us your support from afar. Thank you will never suffice. But it is what we can give. So many thanks. Kudrun Pilegrim Elashava bas Riva The Herders of the cats, the Lyricists for the honeybees, and the Lassoers of the winds
