Thanks Bill Elam. I was nominated by my good friend Bill to post 10 songs that had an influence and/or impacted my life. Here they are right after my nominations/tags to do the same. Brad Bales, Ryan Williams, Dioz Lohman, Jake Daugherty, Ron Pease, Lorenzo DelVecchio, Ryche Green, Johnny Fyve Sinfulcrow, Tricia Silvergypsy Sallo and my favorite girl guitarist, Dali Spradling. Just going to do this right off the top of head, Im sure I will have forgot a few. 1. Lets Go Crazy - Prince. Please, everyone attending my funeral, blast this song from your car stereos as loud as it will go (Kevin Allen, I put you in charge of this, as long as your still alive, lol.) In my mind, this is the best overall song ever written. 2. Jailhouse Rock - Elvis. First song anyone ever heard me sing, although I was in the shower (about 7 years old). I was screaming so loud everyone in the neighborhood heard me. 3. Class of 57 - Statler Brothers. Every Saturday morning growing up, after cartoons were off, this is what me and my mother, Kathy Nelson, listened to while we cleaned the house. Along with Elvis. 4. Just F*cked Up - Shotgun Surprise. First song I was more nervous performing for the first time (other than 20 years prior, see next song) in front of about 500 people at McGuffys. I was nervous for my then 14 year old daughter playing the solo for that song. She nailed it. Greatest feeling in the world, sharing the stage with your kid. 5. It aint like that - Alice in Chains. 20 years ago, performing for the first time at Bogarts in Cincy with my good friends Rocky Pennington, Joe Cox and some dude named Doug on drums. We were all so nervous...not finishing that story, lol. 6. Living after Midnite - Judas Priest. First song I learned on guitar. 7. Papa - Prince. One of his less heard tunes, but this song makes me appreciate my parents and makes me want to be a better parent myself. The power of music. 8. You Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi. Or anything on Slippery When Wet. We use to cruise around in high school listening to this and Prince. Jeff Buchanan, Brett Gilbert, Deron Pugh, Brad Stakelin, Kevin Allen, Scott Rust and many others. 9. Screaming in the Night - Krokus. First song I heard when I met my wife Missi Spradling. Again, not finishing that story, lol. 10. Black Days - Shotgun Surprise | Brookville, OH. I have to have this one on the list just because I wrote this song over 20 years ago, had many people play it with me over the years, put it on our first CD and our record company picks it as our first single release off that CD. I could go on and on with influences by the Foo Fighters, Urge Overkill, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Kiss, Poison, and many, many others, but had to stop at 10. :)
