Thanks Rickey L Cole... This is spot on: Friends, Mississippi’s third legislative session under Phil Bryant and Philip Gunn is over and, as expected, was more of the same nonsense. They remain focused on side issues that appeal to their base but do nothing to address unemployment, public education, or our quality of life. We remain first in poverty and last in education, but Phil’s number one priority is to appease the fringe. The 2014 session was another wasted opportunity to increase income and boost our economy. Along with the country’s lowest average income, we are last in teacher pay. Our teachers deserve a meaningful raise but unfortunately, their average pay will remain dead last. Republicans also shortchanged public education again (shocker) by over 200 million dollars. Join our efforts to fire both Phil’s and restore common sense to state government! The session also ends with Republicans continuing to block Mississippi from receiving billions of dollars the federal government is trying to give us to compensate our hospitals for uncompensated care and cover 300,000 hard working Mississippians who don’t qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford private insurance. The funds would create up to 14,000 jobs and provide a much needed boost to our states economy. Every day Phil Bryant stubbornly refuses to accept these funds, we lose an average of 3.9 million dollars. None of this is surprising. We are now used to the Republican policy of politics over people. Speaker Philip Gunn remarkably said it wasn’t his job to help Mississippians. Well, Mississippians are now fed up with the Republican “leadership”. They are sick of witch hunts and right wing crusades under the guise of “religious freedom.” Click here to support our efforts to defeat these tea party extremists!
