Thanks for being a great cousin Chip, I will think of you often. I pulled myself out of bed just now because thoughts of my cousin Chip and his family keep swirling in my mind. Today they stood by his Gravesite where we just buried his Dad only months ago. I have been sick, in bed for the past few days and could not make the service. He called me after I wrote a small piece about his Dad after his services, paying homage to his sister’s beautiful words that touched us so much. He told me that when he thought he could cry no more that my words brought more tears. He told me how grateful he was for me writing this and how much it meant to him. I never felt so close to him as with those last few conversations. He told me everything I ever wanted to hear from him from the time we were kids and touched me in many ways. What is even sadder is that he was ill as he called me and probably knew that he himself did not have much more time on this earth. We spoke of the barn he was building with such pride. I was honored that he wanted to ask me so many questions about horses in general and about how he was setting up their stalls. I was so happy to have something we could relate to on such a deeper level and that made us all the closer. His passing touched me because of how close in age we are and how much I did not want to see him leave us. I wanted more of his time and could not wait to help him with the arrival of his new horses. Life simply is too short and has forced me to reflect upon all the things that I do not like about my own life and that if I want to make changes for a better life with more happiness I better get underway. Our family is filled with wonderful people, loving people who when you look back all bring traits from our grandparents, some that are good and some that need forgiving and change. Today I am thankful for each and everyone of them and hope they all know how much I love them and need them in my life even if we don’t get to see each other as often as we’d like. Here’s to cousins everywhere and to the link that creates the reason why family really is everything.
