Thanks so much for allowing me to join this group! I have one 5 cm (2 inch) tumor at the bottom of my left lung, 3 much smaller ones in my right and in 3 lymph nodes (which I describe as being located in the middle of the upside down Y - well, you get the picture) . Have already had two CTs (one with dye), numerous trips to the lab for blood work; this past Thursday I underwent a Bronchoscopy (doctor removed samples via needle aspiration and tissue biopsy) and am being scheduled for a PET scan. This coming Thursday, I see my doctor to go over the pathology findings from the samples taken during the Bronchoscopy procedure (his opinion is that Im at Stage IV). I had a slowly progressing cough that I attributed to allergies but realized that there was something more wrong the night I had a pain that started from my left kidney area and progressed up my left rib cage to my arm pit (the pain was worse than any labor pain I experienced giving birth to my two sons). Of course, again, I just assumed that it was a really, really bad muscle spasm - let it takes it course and went on with life. When I finally decided to seek medical attention, ironically it was for a bladder infection (funny how things work out huh). What ever was found in my lab work from that visit, my doctor immediately scheduled me for a CT .. 6 weeks later, Im now facing the biggest fight of my life. You learn something new everyday and today I learned that cancer cells love sugar (who knew right). Similar to feeding a cold and starving a fever, apparently if you dont feed cancer cells sugar, research has found that the cells dont multiply or spread and subsequently die from lack of food [as Martha would say, thats a very good thing]). I would love to hear from those of you who may have followed a carb free diet while undergoing treatment (i.e., carb free diets such as the Ketogenic Diet, Atkins, etc.). Again, thank you for allowing me to become a member of this group.
