Thanks to Regina E. Madden who is a member of a Random Acts of Kindness group, I now have a copy of James Smith Horton and Mattie Colburns marriage license. Regina lives in Russellville, and she found and copied it for me from the records there. Within the last few months, I found that Martha A. Mattie Colburn may have had a teenage marriage before she married James Smith Horton. Records show that she married Monroe Porter when she was 16 and he was 18. They are on the 1900 census as living in Newburg (near Russellville) and having a daughter named Lou. After 1900, Monroe and Lou do not appear on any census that I have been able to find. Notice on the marriage license that JS and Mrs. Mattie Porter were joined together in holy matrimony at the residence of Dave Colburn. That was her father.
