Thanks to everyone for the lovely good luck wishes today 😙 We got home at teatime and overall things went well today. Tom now has a size 4.0 tracheostomy tube rather than a 4.5! He coped fine with it but weve to keep a wee eye on his breathing speed and how he seems in himself just to make sure his new smaller airway isnt causing any issues. They also tried the speaking valve but he didnt tolerate it at all - I expected this to be honest. It shows he is very much still dependent on his trache to breathe. We knew this was very likely the case and have asked the airway team to chase up the outcome of the CT scan Tom had back in January. Toms smaller trache tube means we can hear some small noises now and he sounds a bit different, and that hopefully will get better (and noisier!) with time as Tom realises he can make sounds. Tom had loads of visits from familar faces at Yorkhill which was just lovely. He LOVES a lady in a blue uniform so was showing off his big smiles and tricks like waving, clapping and his latest one... sticking his finger up his nose! 👍👃 No one can believe how great he looks and how well he is doing. He was so good, I am super proud of him as usual 😄😃😂😁😊☺
