Thanks to everyone who attended Project Safe Plate on Saturday and had their number plates secured. I apologise that some drivers were inconvenienced by traffic delays but our officers secured 360 number plates with tamper-proof screws, which is an excellent result over the four-hour event. Our ultimate aim is to stop thieves from stealing number plates and using them for criminal activity. Last year there were 1237 incidents of number plate thefts in Canberra. Fitting these special fasteners makes your registration plates less of a potential target for thieves and makes it harder for offenders to avoid police detection using stolen plates.
