Thanks to my lovely wife for sharing this with me. Im sharing - TopicsExpress

Thanks to my lovely wife for sharing this with me. Im sharing this with you all for two reasons. First, its really cool and entertaining to watch. It is an illustration of an optical illusion created by the different rates at which our eyes capture imagery from the rate that things are actually occurring. I wont go into it further. Its really in the weeds of Nerdland where I live. Now, the second reason I shared this is because of the reaction of tens of thousands of people to seeing it. If you go to the original posting of the video and look at the comments, youll notice a very interesting trend. Around the world, people outside the US have a different reaction. THEY, are enthralled and entertained and discuss the process of creating the apparent illusion of water flowing backwards from the ground to the hose. THEY spend time discussing it. WE, for the most part just get annoyed. There were numerous comments like, how annoying it is for people to show off how smart they are. WE are a society which mistrusts and despises INTELLIGENCE. That is rapidly becoming our DOWNFALL! WE are caught up in the lessons we learned from bullies in our youth. WE learned that the nerdy kids are going to get forced to eat grass on the playground by the dull normals, who have greater physical strength. These are the same dull normals who go on to fill the ranks of our Military and Police Forces. They are the backbone of the Neo-Fascist movements and Dullard Auxiliaries of the Right. They are the angry and afraid WHITE MEN who feel it is VITAL to go to the Mall and Open Carry their semi-automatic rifles. I remember when Garrison Keillor talked about the kind of father who would spend $50,000 to buy the fanciest 4 door pickup truck, without a thought; but would balk at spending $600 to buy a second hand piano for his son who has demonstrated that he just might be a musical prodigy. When I talk about this I speak from personal experience. I was raised in the home of a stepfather who NEVER endorsed or supported my desire to be a Scientist. From the time I was 8, until he eventually crushed that dream; I dreamed of becoming a Physicist. I took the competitive exam for Bronx High School of Science and got accepted. But, that wasnt in his realm of thought. So, I got put into a good, but unspecialized HS and eventually off to the Black Harvard to become a Lawyer, which was his unfulfilled dream. Our society, is rife with unfulfilled dreamers. And the more advanced their dreams, the less they are likely to find support in their homes and the external society for those dreams to be embraced. Id be interested in hearing from my Facebook friends how they experienced this video and the memes underlying the discussion on the origin page. It will tell us all something about our society and ourselves.
