That..was a quick strange trip. Admitted yesterday morning at 9, emergency surgery at 7 pm yesterday and discharged today around 1 pm. I had all the symptoms of appendicitus, describe the symptoms to the VA nurse, who advised me to immediately go to the nearest ER and the VA would pay since driving two hours to their facilities would have been life-threatening. As it turned out, I had Mekels Divirticulum inflamation to the point where it was ready to burst and threaten my life. From Wiki..A Meckels diverticulum, a true congenital diverticulum, is a slight bulge in the small intestine present at birth and a vestigial remnant of the omphalomesenteric duct (also called the vitelline duct or yolk stalk). It is the most common malformation of the gastrointestinal tract and is present in approximately 2% of the population,[1] with males more frequently experiencing symptoms. The ER crew at Erlanger was excellent in all aspects as was the nursing and other support crew. After years of suffering from diverticulosis, hopefully my Gastro Intentinal part of my life will be much more pleasant for years to come. If you experience any symptoms related to appendicitus, ie..nausea, upchucking, fever, chills, lower back pain, pain around the navel and to the right...Do not take chances and have it checked out. I was within hours of a true medical emergency. They do these procedures orthoscopically now with quick recovery and little discomfort. Life is good and my belly looks really weird shaved.
