The 12th and 13th century knight relied on his armour to protect him. He is covered from head to foot in mail. The coif covers his head neck and shoulders, A mail hauberk covers his body and arms, Mittens protect his hands and mail chausses cover his legs and feet. Each ring was hand made by winding wire around a mandrel to make a spring. The spring was then cut to make rings and each ring overlapped and hammered flat. A hole was then punched into the overlaped area and riveted with hand cut copper or bronze rivets. The hauberk alone could have around 25000 rings. Now you know this, watch this little 3min video of Niclas making a small section of a mail coif. Whole towns were employed to make mail. https://youtube/watch?v=JZsHFXUK18w
