The 2013 Household Chemical Roundup was obviously cursed. - TopicsExpress

The 2013 Household Chemical Roundup was obviously cursed. Cancelled first for folding, then closed on the make-up date due to a potentially dangerous substance. The Roundup is an expensive program to implement, with a lot of logistics between staff, contractors and volunteers. It’s not possible for us to reschedule for 2013, so please look for our next roundup next year. In the meantime, here are some tips for safely disposing of common products. Many automotive parts stores will take used motor oil. Check with your local store to see if they can take your oil or see the list at tinyurl/Aurora-Oil-recycling . Partial cans of latex paint are easy to dispose of. Just open the lid and put them in a safe place until the paint dries up. When dry, this is just one big piece of latex rubber, which can be disposed of in your trash. Please make sure the paint is completely dry. Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL’s) are taken by a many electronics and hardware stores. Check the list at tinyurl/Aurora-CFL-recycling or visit Earth911.org for details. Finally, for only $15 through the “At Your Door” program, residents can dispose properly of these chemicals rather. Once a resident has called the hot line to schedule a pick up, they will be given a plastic bag, about the size of a large trash bag, with instructions on how to seal materials, along with a list of materials accepted. The chemicals will then either be recycled or disposed of properly. To enroll in “At Your Door”, please call 800-HHW-PKUP (800-449-7587).
