It is likely very rare when a recording artist has the good fortune to perform in almost all of the major halls in a world class city -- and it likely even more of a rarity when that city --is the artists own home town. Brian Jackson Fetzer has done concert work in major halls from The Energy Solutions Arena to Kingbury Hall, from Abravanel Hall to The Huntsman Center, and from the Tabernacle to the stage of the University of Utah Union Building -- thousand upon thousands have heard the vibrant voice and musical artistry of this phenomenal talented writer and performer. 10:00 a. m. -- 11:00 a. m. An unusual fact or occurrence. The “Pi Song” which is part of “The Music of Mathematics Presentations” has certainly become a phenomenon in educational circles. Since I started presenting “The Music of Mathematics” at the University of Utah in the beginning years of the twenty-first century there have been quite numerous television and newspaper reports on this development in the “Arts of Mathematics,” and the response of the general public has been positively surprising! In the Salt Lake Area alone I have presented over 170 concerts involving “The Music of Mathematics” and “The Pi Song” for a combined audience of over 100,000 people and there is apparently a vibrant growing interest in this flourishing of the mathematical arts. “The Pi Song Phenomenon” is one of a trilogy of artumentaries being made about this refreshing way to perceive the fundamentals and aesthetics of Mathematics. Of Christmas Past and Present The time for a noble idea is now -- always! When one captures true brilliance in a movie that art piece becomes a thing that is, in essence, independent of time. Great Christmas images are certainly among the things that transcend time. Along with footage from the twenty-first century, short Christmas movies from over half a century ago have been woven together in Of Christmas Past, Present and Future. From the, for its time, amazing animation of A Christmas Dream to the deep heart of Christmas Rhapsody, to the imagination and joy of The Night before Christmas, to the beauty of the Christmas Lights of 2003, this is a movie that’s time is truly now -- always! 4:30 p. m. – 6:00 p. m. Christmas Lights Snow youtu.be/x1aFoQxjEAQ “Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Lights!” youtube/watch?v=y8ZUCMJraps&feature=colike On Christmas Morning in the year 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah -- there was the beginning of a magical White Christmas Happening. One of the television weathermen remarked that a snow storm like this only happens about once in approximately seventy years and for it to happen on Christmas Day and continue into the day after was truly serendipitous. Freedom Motion Pictures captured the moments and has woven them together into a truly wonderful musical and artistic production. The talents of many musicians and artist are glistening in this celebration of -- Christmas Lights 7:30 p. m. – 8:30 p. m. Joy to the World! A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim youtube/watch?v=97PwRDfHBlg&feature=colike (Featuring Alastair Sim, Directed by Brian Desmond Hurst, released in 1951, length 86 min.) “I have endeavored in this Ghostly little book to raise the Ghost of an Idea which shall not put my readers out of humor with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their house pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. Their faithful Friend and Servant.” So stated Charles Dickens in 1843 and his masterful tale, of redemption really, that has been meaningly haunting the human race ever since. An old bitter miser is given a chance for reclamation when he is haunted by ghosts on Christmas Eve. There have been numerous movie versions of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” yet, even in the modern age of special effects the 1951 film staring Alastair Sims as Ebenezer Scrooge remains an enduring treasure, that has relevance and resilience in the arts of motion picture making. It is one of the most wonderful adaptations ever made of Charles Dickens beloved tale of the real magic of Christmas! Alastair Sim’s tour-de- force performance as the ultimate miser, has certainly helped make this movie one of the best loved Christmas films of all time. Cranky and curmudgeonly Scrooge learns the error of his unkind ways and is taught the true meaning of Christmas when he is visited by the ghost of his late business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas past, present and future. I remember as a child waiting up late into the nighttime to watch faithfully this movie on the television and though it is great there it is magnificent of the big screen for which it was intended. In fact there is some truth in saying that one has not really seen some of these old, and for that matter, new motion pictures until one has taken the time to view them in an actual theater setting.
