The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT represents a new direction for the famous German brands performance division as it says it is moving ahead into a new sports car segment. It appears from the new name that AMG got to play a larger role in the development. And the GT has a tough act to follow, the gullwing-door Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The car has a long hood and wide rear end in what Mercedes says is an attempt to underscore its rear-wheel-drive heritage. The car will be largely made of aluminum. Only the second sports car developed in-house by Mercedes, the GT is a front mid-engine design centered around its biturbo 4-liter V-8 engine. The motor produces 456 horsepower. If that isnt enough, theres a GT S version putting out 503 horsepower. Mercedes says it thinks its powerplant will be good for zero to 60 mph acceleration times of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 193 mph.
