The 20th Annual RCU Charity Classic will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014, with races beginning in downtown Eau Claire’s Phoenix Park. The day kicks off with a 10k walk/run at 8 a.m., followed by a 2-mile walk/run at 9:30 a.m., then two children’s races—a ½-mile race beginning at 10:15 a.m. and a ¼-mile race beginning at 10:25 a.m. Registration is available online at rcu.org or at any RCU office. Pre-registration for the 10K and 2-mile is $20 or $25 after June 25. Pre-registration for the children’s races is $10 or $15 after June 24. Proceeds from the 2014 RCU Charity Classic are being donated by the RCU Foundation to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley. The clubs provide positive and productive programming for community youth ages 8-18. Over 4,200 youth are served annually through membership, community outreach and special events. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley currently operates centers in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Jackson County/Black River Falls and will soon open a fourth site in Menomonie. Youth participate in after school and full day summer programming in five core areas of focus: Character & Leadership, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, Sports, Recreation & Fitness and Education & Career Development. With the donation from the RCU Foundation following the race, the Boys & Girls Club in Eau Claire will be able to create two new classroom spaces to accommodate the growth of its daily programs. Average daily attendance at the club has grown from 52, at the beginning of 2013, to a current average of 75. The club serves approximately 150 youth per day for its Eau Claire summer school programming. These classrooms will help provide technology driven programs to help club members succeed both academically and socially. The mission at the Boys & Girls Club is To inspire and enable young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. The RCU Charity Classic Spaghetti Feed will be held the night before the race, Friday, June 27, 2014, from 5:30-7:30pm at the RCU Corporate Center, 200 Riverfront Terrace, Eau Claire. Registered runners can also pick up their race packet. The food is catered by KP Katering. Spaghetti with marinara sauce, meatballs, garlic bread, coleslaw and a cookie will be served. The cost is $5 per person, children 2 and under are free.
