The 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games is being held in Glasgow from 23rd July to 3rd August. In its 1st edition in Canada (Hamilton) in 1930 only 4 athletes from 11 nations competed in 4 sports and the games lasted for a span of just 7 days. An indication of how much the games have progressed can be judged by the fact that in the current edition 6500 athletes from 71 countries are participating in 17 sports spread over 17 days.
