The 27 Band Selby Gallery I: Sarasota artist and sculptor Jack Dowd’s new series of large-scale pastels of the immortal “27 Club” is a visual, literary and musical portrait of the 12 rock stars who died at the age of 27. Their goal in life was not to live forever; their goal in life was to create something that would. They are: Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Alan Wilson, Jean Michel Basquiat, Ron (Pig Pen) Mckernan, Rudy Lewis, Pete Ham, and Robert Johnson. The installation also includes sculptured icons bearing written segments about their songs and stories.
