The 3rd and 4th of the 5 programs that I mentioned was the 48th Anniversary of of Sri Krishna Sangita Sabha at Sri Dattatreya Devasthana, Tyagarajanagar. It was a double treat interspersed with felicitations to 2 Senior Vidwans viz., Vid. D. V Nagarajan and Karnataka Kalasri Vid. Tirumale Srinivas. First up, it was a melodious and neat vocal concert by Vid.Yoga Kirtana (a young and able disciple of Sangita Kalaratna Vid. Neela Ramagopal ) accompanied by Vid. M P Aditya on Violin, Vid. Nagendra Prasad on Mrudanga, Vid. Anuru Sunad on Khanjari and Vid. Chidananda on Morsing. Commencing nice concert with Sri Mysore Sadashiva Rao’s kriti Maamava Saraswati in Marga Hindola, Kirtana followed it up with Saint Swathi Thirunal’s kriti Paripalayamam in Reethi Gowla. Sri Mysore Vasudevachar’s popular kriti Pranamaamyaham Sri Gowreesutam in Ranjani was a treat to ears. That brought the concert to the Raga of the Morning… the pleasing Thodi…. Nice alapane brilliantly responded to by Aditya… St. Tyagaraja’s gem Koluvamaregada sung with abundant confidence and embellished with Neraval at Thamboora JEkoni and a nice tani avartane by the young and talented percussion trio was well appreciated by a highly knowledgeable audience consisting of many senior and young vocal and instrumental vidwans and vidushis. Kirtana concluded her nice concert with Sangita Pitamaha Sri Purandara Dasa’s kriti Eke KadegaNNinda Noduve in Ahir Bhairav. Vid. Anuru Anantha Krishna Sharma blessed the young and talented singer with his appreciative words. Following the first concert of the morning, there was a brief but emotionally charged felicitation program. Smt. Shantha Ramamurthy(wife of senior violin vidwan Late M S Ramamurthy, a disciple of Late Anuru Ramakrishna), Vid. D V Nagarajan and Karnataka Kalasri Vid. Tirumale Srinivas were felicitated much to the appreciation of audience which had swollen by that time.. Following the felicitation program, it was time for a highly powerful concert by Vid. Suchetan Ramaswamy, disciple of Vid. Dr. R K Srikantan. Frankly, for me, it was his first concert attended by me. I had briefly heard him singing Sugama Sangeeta. But, his concert on this occasion, waww, it swept me off my chair.. what a rich voice, what confidence!! He was brilliantly accompanied by Vid. Sindhu Suchetan on Violin, Vid.Anuru Vinod on Mrudangam Vid. Gopi Shravan on Morsing and Vid. Sudatta Sripad on Tabla. Beginning with varNa Sarasuda, Suchetan followed it up with Lambodaram Avalambe in Kaambhoji, a Mysore Vasudevacharya’s kriti. Melodious Raagalaapane for which Sindhu responded brilliantly, neraval at Surabhusurasamsevita and also Swara kalpane made for nice concert experience. Continuing in high spirits, Nadupai balikeru in Madhyamavati again with swara prasthara @ Payojaksha. Then came the best and the main item.. Lathaangi… what a brilliant Raagaalapane.. what great Violin support.. rarely heard Kriti Yenta Nirdaya Naameeda Neeku, (a kriti again by Mysore Vasudevacharya) with neraval at Varijaksha Vasudeva and our Percussion Trio once again doing a brilliant job with Tani Avartana.. the now Full House (~200??) audience couldn’t have asked for more.. But, more was indeed on offer.. a devaranama and finally Bhadrachala Ramadasa kriti Ramachandraya… Brilliant, Brilliant.. Suchetan, you know… Yeh Dil Maangey Moooooore…
