The 60 Second Sermon Saturday July 27th 2013 Bible: The Inspired Word of God I am so amazed by the Bible and what we understand that it tells us! Sometimes I am more in awe of what it contains that we do not yet have the ability to understand! I have complete faith that the Bible is the inspired Word of God! The Bible is not meant to be a scientific book of information, but it does offer information that suggests an understanding of the universe that is more compatible with what we now know than what the people who were writing it knew. These people were given a knowledge that far exceeded anything they understood. We come across things in the Bible today that we do not yet understand, but we can always trust its accuracy and authenticity! I was reading an article called “The Bible Foreshadows Scientific Discoveries” on a site called PleaseConvinceMe which claims to take a detective’s perspective on the Bible. Here are some interesting Bible facts: When the Bible was written most people thought the Earth was flat and they had no knowledge of the atmosphere, yet the Bible explains both in a way that people of the time could understand. Isaiah 40:22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. Most primitive cultures believed that something held up the earth. Hindu, Greek Pagans, Buddhists, and Early Native Americans all thought that something held up the Earth. A man, a catfish, an elephant, or maybe a turtle was holding up the Earth. The Bible contains no such silly superstition. Job 26:7 He spreads out the northern [skies] over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing. Early astronomers believed the universe to be fixed, in fact it has not been that long ago that we figured out that it is expanding. The Bible told people this from the start! Isaiah 45:12 It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts. People of the Bible’s time had no conception of The Big Bang or Singularity theory, but the Bible told us there was a beginning. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth. Early people supposed the sea floor to be flat, but the Bible told us of yet another fact that early people had no way to learn. 2Samuel 22:16 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of breath from his nostrils The rains, running water, and the sea mystified people in the days that the Bible was written, yet look at the explanations of The Hydrologic cycle. Job 26:8 He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight Job 36:27-28 He draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain to the streams; the clouds pour down their moisture and abundant showers fall on mankind Ecclesiastes 1:6-7 The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again Amos 9:6 He who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the face of the earth, the LORD is His name. God does not want us to suspend our intelligence and logic in order to believe the Bible, I think it is just the opposite, but we do need faith in that which we do not yet understand! Over the centuries, more and more of the Bible is understood and found to be accurate! Just because we don’t understand how something could have happened does not mean it is not correct! It simply means that we don’t understand yet! Your Bible IS the inspired Word of God! All will be revealed in its time! Trust in God and have Faith! God Bless You! With Love, Brent
