~~The 80 Days of Cruel Summer~~ DAY 41. Sparks and Jane Wiedlin, Cool Places. Cool Places is an 80s song released by Sparks in collaboration with Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Gos. This 1983 Summer song is pure 80s Novelty Fun and remains a favorite on 80s compilations. Cool Places is forever ingrained into my 80s Summer memories but also has created new summer memories as The 80 Days of Cruel Summer forages on into the back half of Summer. The 80 Days of Cruel Summer has a very special mantra/ tag line, Make New Memories and Relive Old Ones and for many of us at The 80s Music Club, we have done just that. Nadine Mumaw Meeker, a Co-Admin here at The 80s Music Club, has created our graphics ( Big Round of Applause) and although Cool Places isnt her favorite song, the graphic is really Cool and special. The graphic for Cool Places was made with Lots of care and Nadine lovingly took my suggestions for the graphic which she skillfully fine tuned. Nadine made this graphic come alive with very intricate attention to detail (Check out the poster under the Allen header to the left, its the single images of Cool Places), Love, passion and dedication. The song Cool Places has manifested and sprung to life as we enjoy our summer movies. We Have found a Cool Place. Cool Places symbolizes many things to me. Its total 80s fodder and reminds me of the Summer of 1983. It reminds me of the excitement of MTV and of all the Cool New Music that was everywhere. I was taken by the idea of Cool Places. In our youth, we all wanted to be cool or cooler and we wanted acceptance and friendship! Cool Places delights us as it uses the word Cool in a clever way. Recently as the Admins, Nadine, Bernie and myself bartered and discussed which songs should make The 80 Days of Cruel Summer top 80, I wouldnt give up on this song and compromised and cut other favorite songs so this one would remain. It had to be there since its literally one of the clearest 80s summer memories that I have and it still makes me feel like its the Summer of 1983. Just as important, this song has new memories for me! Nadine, much to her chagrin ( Im sure) will always be part of my memory of this song. Yes, its like that. The song may not be the most loved song but its catchy, quirky and really Cool. So 80s Club Members, as The 80 Days of Cruel Summer meets its halfway point , take the time this Summer to find some Cool Places with friends and family. Enjoy your summer, your time in the Sun, enjoy the music and laughter because we know its gonna end soon. The Summer will end and its gonna be Cruel when it does. So Cruel thats its already over and it hurts our heart in a Happy Sad Way. Until then, do as the Cool Places song lyrics suggest, I wanna go to Cool Places with you. And after that well slip out for a bite. A coffee shop and toast, coffee and juice. And then well sleep til 5pm. And start it up all over again! Happy Summer from The 80s Music Club!
