The AFP’s military campaign in FSMR ensures the unhindered operation of large-scale mining Ka Efren Aksasato NDFP - Farsouth Mindanao Region October 3, 2014 The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is intensifying its military campaign in FarSouth Mindanao to ensure the unhindered operation of large-scale mining companies in the region. In South Cotabato, the 27th IB-PA has conducted a relentless military campaign in Lake Sebu and T’boli as the San Miguel Energy Corporation (SMEC) gears up for the impending full operation of its coal mining in Daguma Range. Congruently, the 73rd IB’s regular operation in Davao Occidental is aimed at securing the construction of the company’s coal-fired power plant. Meanwhile, an extensive joint military operation is breaking out again in the border areas of Matan-ao, Davao del Sur, Tampakan, South Cotabato and Colombio, Sultan Kudarat. Recurring military activities in the area were halted since Sagittarius Mines Incorporated (SMI) started the suspension of its operation last year. The joint-operation mobilizes the 73rd IB, 39th IB and 27th IB forces under the 1002nd Bd of the 10th ID-PA and the 33rd IB under the 601st Bd of the 6th ID-PA. The New People’s Army (NPA) units in FSMR along with the masses’ support unswervingly defend against the AFP’s recurring attacks by consistently conducting attritive actions that target military installations and AFP units taking part in the operations. Successive actions were carried out last month, to wit: September 4, harassment actions were meted out against two separate columns of patrolling 73rd IB troops in Davao Occidental. A sapper team under the Alex Ababa Command-Front 71 (AAC-F71) harassed a column in sitio Kalasangan, Brgy. Caburan, Jose Abad Santos, while a team of Red fighters under Front 75 hit a troop that arrived at sitio Tugal, Brgy. Pangaleon, Malita. A fascist trooper was killed and two were wounded in the actions. September 5, three related harassment actions were simultaneously carried out by the sapper teams under the Julito Banda Command-Front 73 against 27th IB troops in Lake Sebu and Surallah in South Cotabato. Targets of the said actions are a team of soldiers conducting peace and development outreach program (PDOP) in sitio Datal Lawa, Brgy. Upper Sepaka, Surallah, and the Civilian Armed Auxiliary (CAA) detachments under the 27th IB located in sitio Tasady Blit, Brgy. Ned, Lake Sebu and in Brgy. Upper Sepaka, Surallah. Two paramilitary members were wounded. September 21, Red fighters under JBC-F73 confronted a despotic landlord in Brgy. Laconon, T’boli. A 12-gauge shotgun was seized in his possession. In Sultan Kudarat, NPA operatives under the Mt. Alip Command-Front 72 (MAC-F72) lobbed a grenade at the tactical command post (TCP) of the 1002nd Bd in Brgy. New Bantangan, Colombio. September 22, a command detonated explosive (CDX) hit a convoy of the 2nd Public Safety Company – Philippine National Police (2nd PSC-PNP) bomb squad in Brgy. New Bantangan, Colombio. The unit apparently turned up to investigate the grenade explosion at the TCP the previous night. One PNP trooper was killed and one was injured in the incident. September 26, NPA fighters under the MAC-F72 lobbed grenades at unguarded 73rd IB troopers in sitio Datal Pitak, Brgy. Kolon Sabak, Matan-ao. The blast killed at least one soldier and a few others were injured. Because of the area’s distance and inaccessibility to land transport, the AFP sent a chopper to rescue the casualties. The 1002nd Bd had twice launched retaliatory mortar firing on September 28 ang 29 respectively. The continuing military operation at the Davao del Sur-South Cotabato-Sultan Kudarat triboundary is a clearing up of the mining site for the resumption of SMI’s operation.
