The Aam Aadami Party extends its support to the 1400 contract - TopicsExpress

The Aam Aadami Party extends its support to the 1400 contract workers of Bajaj Auto Chakan-Pune unit who are on stoppage agitation for the last 13 days under the banner of Vishwa Kalyan Kamgar Union, the authorised union for this plant. Bajaj industry is associated with the legendary industrialist Shri Jamnalal Bajaj who advocated the Gandhian idea of trusteeship. It is disappointing that the minimum and very reasonable demands of the workers are not being responded to in this unit. Especially since, in the recent past the Company has done very well, but the employees share in value addition has gone down drastically from 31% to 12%. Even among Employees the share of workers is negligible as against management staff. For one unit of Pulsar that sells in the market for 70,000, Share Holder & Management Staff get around Rs. 16700, the Governments get around Rs. 10000, the dealers get around Rs. 10,000. But all the 1450 workers are getting around Rs.300/- per Pulsar, that works out to 22 paisa per worker per Pulsar! It is sad that the Company has increasingly resorted to using mostly contract and other non-regular workers. Aam Aadami Party extend support to their basic demands: Equal wages for equal work, Review of agreement between Wishw Kalyan Kamgar Sanghatana (Authorised union) and managment as per clauses in previous agreement, Shares of company against pending dues towards company managment, Removal of suspension orders and false police cases against workers, · Stoppage of mental harrasment by the management. We call upon the management of this Company to respond immediately to workers led by a leadership that is constructive, responsible and committed to peaceful and legal means. We also demand that the government should intervene to defend the legal rights of the workers. We call upon the public to extend support to this crucial struggle so that the families of the workers in distress get a relief, production can be resumed and the growing tendency towards curtailment of labour rights can be checked.
